Jim Molloy Sr.

Chief Executive Officer

The integration of five core business units in early 2009 marks the latest chapter in T. James Molloy’s lifelong quest to create the largest and best service-oriented organization of its kind in the New York metropolitan area. Branded The Advance Group, this organization builds upon his 40 years of industry experience, acquisition prowess, and intuitive sense of market dynamics. This innovative organization includes commercial moving, office furniture installation, distribution, storage, document management, and employee relocation services.

Jim Molloy is the product of a family business, Molloy Bros. Moving and Storage, which has its roots in the post-World War II period. Jim started as a warehouse packer during high school and college, worked every position, and became VP of Operations in 1972.

In 1976 the Molloy brothers sold the business to non-family members. Jim chose to move on and to challenge himself with a new venture. He joined North American Van Lines as a sales executive in the New York City corporate sales office. In a little over three years he had vaulted into the top tier of national account sales.

In 1979 Jim started Advance Relocation and Storage, a commercial moving operation, to capitalize on the growing need to relocate commercial businesses. The experience and resources of Advance Relocation and Storage were leveraged in 1989 when it took over the sales office operations in New York City for North American Van Lines to service existing national accounts.

By 1990 Advance Relocation and Storage was a strong and vibrant organization that nourished new business through superior client service. That same year saw Jim reacquire the family’s Molloy Bros. residential moving operation.

When, in 1995, the company had outgrown its roots as simply a moving company, Jim changed the company name to Advance Commercial Movers to reflect the expanded emphasis on the commercial market.

Advance Commercial Movers joined Mayflower Transit in 1999, which is a part of the world’s largest moving organization, the Uni-Group. Both Molloy Bros. and Advance Commercial Movers are agents of Mayflower Transit in New York and New Jersey. Advance Commercial Movers has earned sales awards since 1999, and is especially proud of its awards for quality, the most recent being for 2008.

In 2003 Jim formed a joint venture partnership that brought FITCO, a leading Queens-based furniture installation and warehousing company, into his growing repertoire of services.

The prescience of these moves was demonstrated in 2005 when the company experienced record-breaking growth of more than 30 percent.

Today, more than 40 years since his journey began, Jim Molloy’s vision has been defined. The Advance Group captures the essence of his vision to become the favored solutions provider for the most challenging projects from the most desirable corporate clients. This vision was forged from hard work, tempered by the challenges to build and grow a successful business, and polished with a team of successful, driven professionals.

Jim is a proud member of Vistage International, the world’s leading CEO organization; CoreNet Global NYC Chapter; BOMA, Building Owner’s and Manager’s Association of Greater New York, Inc.; IFMA, International Facilities Management Association; and AMSA, American Moving and Storage Association.

Supporting charity is an important part of doing business for Jim. He and his staff regularly support local not-for-profit organizations. The company has directly assisted Island Harvest and the Marine Corps’ Toys for Tots program. In 2005, the CIBS (Commercial Industrial Brokers Society) honored him for his support of their charitable endeavors. In 2008, Jim was honored by the Mental Health Association of Nassau County at its Miracle Makers Ball with the Corporate Citizen of the Year award.
